Unless you've been living under a rock, you may be aware that the EU Referendum will be taking place on Thursday 23rd June. Now we’re not going to pretend that politics is our forte; masters of giftware we may be, but political wizards we are not! We do, however, acknowledge the importance the EU referendum and how voting in or out effects our lives and the future of the country. A few weeks back the affable Chuka Umanna came to our office to encourage us to all vote to stay part of the EU. We never say no to a party, and an opportunity to eat cake, so we went wild making our office fit for a politician. Here is a rundown of what we got up to.

Every May Sass & Belle takes part in National Deaf Children’s Society’s (also known as NDCS) Big Cake Bake to raise money for the lovely charity and to honour National Deaf Awareness Week. Not only is it an excuse to eat cake (who needs one really?), it’s a reason to put a lot of our pretty products to good use and get the office together for a right old knees up. This year we took advantage of the shining sun and hosted a vintage tea party outside.

We don’t know about you but at Sass & Belle, we love Christmas decorations! We also adore sweet treats so we thought it was absolutely integral that now the festive season is upon us, we do a little DIY on edible Christmas decorations. Gingerbread is an obvious choice because of its Christmassy connotations, lasting power and, most importantly, deliciousness. Now who can resist that? Just make sure you make enough so you don’t have a half empty tree by Christmas Eve!

Oh GBBO, how your weekly presence delights us! This week was all about desserts and it was certainly a jammy one. Ian become star baker for the third week in a row and Sandy wobbled her way out of the tent with her two tier cheesecake disaster. We watched eagled-eyed at Sass & Belle HQ took notes and prepared for our own bakes. Note one, turn oven on (cough…Sandy). This week Victoria our Content Editor showed us how to make Blueberry soured cream cake with cheesecake frosting.

Bakers and cake-lovers across the UK, rejoice! The Great British Bake Off is back and it didn’t disappoint. Hollywood and Berry (is that the best duo-name ever or what?) are on our screens again for two whole months and they’ve brought with them a variety of great bakers. We couldn’t be more chuffed.
